Paws-n-Praise

Mission

* To further the understanding of the human/dog bond; and to help those relationships grow through education

* To provide knowledge and skills to care for our canine companions so as to prevent harm to both human and dog and the tragedy of unwanted pets.

Hundreds of thousands of pet dogs are euthanized in Austin area shelters annually.
Many more dogs are abandoned at the shelter and found on the streets than are adopted out.
Behavior problems are the number one reason people give for surrendering a dog to a shelter.

I offer ways to change patterns of behavior that have been previously established.
By rewarding the good behaviors with voice cues or markers, like "Yes" or "Good dog!" ; coupled with touch and treats, your dog will understand what makes you happy. To discourage unwanted behaviors, you can teach your dog to do a desired behavior that is incompatible with undesired ones.
For example, teach your dog to sit to get attention, rather then brushing it away or yelling at it if it jumps on you.

My methods are based on positive reward and no reward principles, like clicker-training.

What sets my methods apart is that I train using emotional cues and voice to mark the behavior rather than a clicker tool.
